VDL Special Vehicles provides second life for used batteries.
Used batteries from VDL Bus & Coach bv 's electric buses will get a new life as an energy storage system. VDL, Transdev Nederland and German energy concern RWE are entering into a collaborative project called Anubis for this purpose.
VDL special vehicles will install a new and larger battery pack on the 43 electric buses that have been in service since 2016. The old batteries still have enough capacity to be used in a storage facility.
Together with Transdev Nederland and RWE, VDL will use many more batteries from buses in this way in the coming years. Nevertheless, this is still in its infancy and a lot of testing and data collection will be done in the coming years in this project, so that we can contribute even more to making our society more sustainable.
